Hello Gents,

Recently picked up a Colt 80 with a Compensated Barrel (not a bushing style) and was wondering how the heck you strip it for cleaning?

I'm pretty sure the comp is not supposed to be removed for regular cleaning.

It's got a two-peice full length guide rod, so I can rack the slide, lock it and remove the front section but after that I'm lost.

I can turn the bushing but it doesn't seem to release the spring.

From the other FLGR threads some seem to have a hole at the bottom to insert a L-Shaped wire but there is nothing like that on the bottom.

Any ideas?

Thanks for looking,

2-piece guide rods usually have a hex socket in the tip, to allow you to unscrew them with an allen key. I have an 1911 with an old Wilson Accu-Comp II, and I usually strip it by:

1. Removing slide from frame.

2. Unscrewing guide rod, removing front end of rod, and carefully removing the rear portion & spring from out the underside of the slide.

3. Push barrel & comp out far enough to access bushing, turn to left to allow the plug to drop out, then turn right to remove barrel & bushing.
