What would you guys recommend are the essential, must-have spare parts for a 1911? I have an STI Spartan.

I carry spare mainspring, recoil spring, sear spring, firing pin stop, firing pin and spring. A spare fitted extractor wouldn't hurt either.

Your best bet for spare parts will be to eventually get a second 1911 as backup, or a new 1911 and your Spartan as backup.

As above, spare springs are cheap and useful.

However, the part failure that will most likely result in shutting down your day entirely would be a broken extractor. Followed by a broken barrel bushing. Followed by a broken barrel link. But then you're really talking about a spare fitted barrel / link assembly.

For a high-dollar course or performance-oriented competition, nothing beats a spare gun.

Don't forget to have extra function-proven magazines on hand: They're a consumable part.

You didn't specify what the extra parts are for. If you're just using the pistol for casual target shooting, then a spare parts kit is nice to have. However, if you're using it for a competition or a training course, then nothing beats a back up gun.

"Essential" in what regards?

~ Extractor.
~ Slide stop.
~ Recoil spring plug.
~ Recoil spring.
~ Magazine.

if you do go the back up parts rule, make sure they are fitted to your gun by your smith. unfitted parts might work but why buy the extras if you arent 100% they will work

Problem I found with 1911s is all internal parts gotta be fitted.

I just buy as I need. Because haven't changed my recoil spring in 8 years.
