1911. Government or Commander?

I find the difference in recoil quite pronounced between the two. I've put about 600 rounds through my Wilson Combat Professional, and I find I am flinching big time with each shot. Got to train myself out of that.
 
i can tell you that the commander hammer needs work to work reliably in the gov't frame, or at least mine did- and i had the wilson beavertail installed as well- model 70
 
Keep in mind that most 'drop in' parts aren't. You might find a part that drops into one commander, and needs some touches to get it to fit and function in an 'identical' gun. That said, with the exception of barrel bushings, Gov't and Commander use the same parts. Getting a Commander bushing is as easy as any other part. I see that Marstar is bringing in a 2- tone 5" gun, should be interesting as the frame is hard chromed from Norc (the way they do hard chrome, it may just solve the newbie scratch) :D
 
BALANCE, Commander feels nicer to hold, so neutral. The regular feels a bit front heavy. my 2 cents.

I find the shorter slide allows for a faster cycle in IPSC, maybe the weight is a factor. (lighter = faster) :D As for recoil, feels identicle to my regular 1911.
 
which one?

I have owned both in the past, loved them each. However as time goes on the nod goes to the full size goverment. If I lived in the USA and was able to carry I would grab a commander. However I live in Canada and use my guns for sport, the full size 1911 is a better fit. I personal like the heft of the full size 1911 anyways.
 
I have a 1918 dated "Model of 1911 U.S. Army" marked Colt with the original "loop" equiped magazine,I wouldn't want a more accurate,perfectly balanced pistol than this,can't see myself with a Commander model.
 
I've tried both and prefer the Gov. model. Recoil is nicer, and I find it a bit more accurate.
