1911 guide rods don't do anything for the gun except make them look cool when the slide is pulled back. I have a Wilson Combat 2 piece in mine. If they did anything, every 1911 manufactured would have one in it,
My older CQB just has a GI plug set-up. 100% reliable and for me it looks better when that big old 45 barrel is hanging out the front of the frame by himself when the slide is locked back. I can't see a full length guide rod giving me any better anything....
I put Dlasks in my 1911 gov. and noticed a much smoother action with the spring not pilling to the side of the frame. Extra weight helps stability. I love it and would recommend it. most high end pistols be it 1911 or otherwise run full length guide rods.
Not really. Most high end 1911's will allow you the option to run whatever you like, for example a GI plug, because the full length guide rod does nothing to aid in cycling or reliability in a good 1911.
Agreed. my 1911 is not high end and benefited greatly from the guide rod. I should hope you don't have to mod a high end gun. My first 1911 so no Kimber here yet..
I don't think there is much of a noticeable difference at all but if your like me, and you just like tinkering with your gun and see how it performs, then just get one. Haha.
A pal with 7 1911s told me essentially the same thing. He has a tungsten rod in his main competition gun just for the weight. Right now I've got a blued R1 with no rod and a '70's Gold Cup with. Both function flawlessly and the GC is ridiculously accurate with anything I feed it.
I've got a SS R1 one on the way and we'll see if it needs any help or does fine out of the box.
