Does anyone know of someone in or near Calgary who is good with 1911's? I'm having extractor issues on my Norinco and the finish on the slide looks worn and I would like to get it hard chromed. I'm thinking someone who can hard chrome a slide may not be able to fix the extractor (the rounds don't always get pushed up into like, like it has too much tension or something) so maybe I'll need to get a hold of two differant people.

If you want to, you can remove your extractor and check it for burrs at the claw edges. You can easily remove any burring present with a small fine flat file, even if not burred, bevel the leading edges of the claw to assist feed of the case into the extracor. During the feed cycle of the round from the magazine, the extractor does NOT snap over the case rim; the head of the case slides up the face of the breach, and the extractor claw finds its self within the extractor grove of the case.

I have done some work with norinco extractors and one common problem is that the stock firing pin retainer does not hold the extractor vertical and allows it to turn in its recess in the slide. If it turns enough it will cause a feed or an extraction problem. You can check this by trying to turn the extractor by pushing on the corners of the flat back edge of the extractor where it exits the back of the slide( gun in battery and empty). If you can rotate the extractor more than a few degrees the firing pin retainer is undersized. I typically build the stock retainers up and refit them but over sized ones are available.
The "bolt face" of some norinco slides is also very rough sometimes and does not allow the round to slide up into the extractor smoothly.
