OK so I confess, my experience in 1911's is very limited.
I have just received my brand new Cold Government Wiley Clapp. It is a mark IV and a 70 series.
I disassembled it easily and cleaned it. Now I am not able to reassemble. I think I am doing everything right. I insert the stopping pin Inside the barrell loop but then (and I am careful about not doing a idiot scratch), I cannot insert the lever of the pin as there is a little part that protrudes (and that is springy) that is in the way. It is the little horizontal bar that is just next to the sagfety.
Not sure I am clear...
Can someone help me?

The gun is new and the plunger pin is probably a bit stiff.When you get the slide stop up near the notch take a plastic object and push in on the protruding plunger pin while at the same time pushing the slide stop through the notch..

So if I understand, it is supposed to go in but as the pistol is new, it is stiff and will require help?

I have a brand new Sig 1911 and had the same issue. I knew how to put it back together but the safety plunger is very stiff and I had a hard time getting the slide stop to drop neatly back into the frame. I used a push pin to move the plunger in enough to get the slide stop to drop back in without making an "idiot scratch" but the suggestion of a thin piece of plastic makes much more sense.
 
To make your life easy, put back the slide without the recoil spring and install the slide stop by using a non metal push pin for the safety plunger. Then install the recoil spring and plug.
