I am tired of hammer pinch on my 1911. Is there a cheap way to cure this that doesn't involve me changing my grip? I don't want to have to hold the pistol furhter down or anything.

I have heard that I can just bob the hammer, but I'm woried I'd remove to much. (I have seen pictures of 1911's with practically no hmmer exposed)

I expect that I can't just put a commander style hammer in without modifying the beavertail, etc.

Any suggestions that don't involve hundreds of bucks?

is your beaver tail like this?...........

for the beaver tail get the extended one ... like this....

or as the old guys say, shoot more - your hands will toughen- and you'll get some nice scar tissue in the web- seriously, i went the beaver and commander route too - you won't be sorry- all there was at the time was wilson, ( i've got a shiny, don'tcha know) but there's all kinds of others now,

I must be missing something here. I don't understand how you can get hammer-bite if you have a beavertail safety installed.

My hand must be big enough that the web between my thumb and index finger actually is high enough up the grip that it gets pinched between the hammer and the beavertail.

Is replacing the hammer and beavertail a big job?

Can I simply buy the extended beavertail and the commander style hammer and drop them in, or do these have to be fitted? Sounds expensive.

Also, what is a slab sytle hammer? Just flush with the slide?

I would just bob the hammer a bit, unless your terrible at grinding things, its impossible to remove to much. You could just get a comander hammer, and then modify the original grip safty to match it.

It's that "modify the original grip safety" bit that worries me. I have no idea what modification would be necessary.

To find out about different 1911 gunsmithing projects goto www.blindhogg.com/gunsmithing the gunsmith there tells you how he does it, so you can do it too ,if you have the tools and skills. But it also lets you know what to expect to do that particular job.
