1911 in .40 cal?

Lots of companies make 40 cal 1911's - Para, STI, etc. My question would be why? Not as inherently accurate as 45 and not as cheap as 9. I guess it does maker major easily for IPSC but since you can't have more than 10 rounds in the mag anyway......

As Kindly Old Coach might reply----I have run into an assload of .40 cal ammo
thats why I am looking at this chambering instead of .45 or 9mm and as I am just getting into handguns I want to stretch my budget out over several types of guns, A pistol in .40, a revolver in .357 and something in .22, I do not know what type yet, and if anyone has a line on one of these you can kindly PM me!

Seems completely reasonable, STI makes great guns and has great support here in Canada (if something goes wrong, it'll get fixed and won't have to leave the country to do so). And congratulations on your 'assload' :D wish I had an assload of ammunition.

I've got a Dan Wesson SSC in 40 short and weak. A dream to shoot and very accurate. Also one of the more expensive 1911 I've bought, but it's fully loaded, so it was well priced. Get one if you can!

.40 S&W off the 1911 platform...

I had Gunnar at Armco fit a .40 S&W barrel to one of my Colt Delta 10mm's. Best of both worlds. Can reload tons of .40's with the free once fired brass the cops leave laying around the local ranges for informal plinking & target work. Then can save full house 10mm for special occasions....

Same here Oly doesn't make that good of rifles ,but they do make some good barrels . Had them make me a NM stainless 40S&W barrel.I fitted it to my Thompson 10mil and like you use it at my descretion.

The full house 10 mil shades the .45acp like Rooster Cogburn shades Glen Cambell in True Grit! Youd thank a ton of brick fell on you!
