I am thinking about buying a Norc 1911A1 in .45 ACP, but I can't afford to shoot .45 ACP all the time, so I was wondering what all is involved in converting it to 9mm?

From my understanding it is as simple as: new magazines and a new barrel. Is that correct? Thank you!

A little more complicated than that.

Besides the magazine and a barrel you need a 9mm slide / extractor / recoil spring.

Reload .45; its cheaper and better ammo than factory.

Hmm, okay. I don't have any reloading equipment yet but I'd like to get going on it when my budget allows.

I think I'll just wait until they both fit my budget.

Not that simple! you'd need the 9mm upper and the mags. so it won't be cheap, I'd rather get another gun altogather.

I'd just get a 9mm...or save up for a nicer .45...

the ejector is also in the wrong spot- however, the commander model in 38 super can switch top ends back and forth at will- at least it is on the colt

+1 for reloading, you can get a good start with a turret press for about $200 - far less than even the cost for the mags and barrel of a conversion. Oh yea, get your Norc from Gunnar @ Armco.

ian,
btdt SEVERAL TIMES. This can be done... BUT ...

Some slides are slotted out wide enough to accept BOTH a .45 Ejector and a 9MM ejector, which fits IN THE FRAME slightly inboard of the .45 position. The .45 ejector is a bit too far off centerline, and way too short to work reliably with 9 MM, however a shortened 9 MM ejector works reliably with both caliber uppers [ if you can get A 9 EJECTOR to fit in the slide slot .]

You could also have an accuracy problem when using two different slides on the same frame. This has to do with the rails on the frame being set for the factory slide and not for the new one. Finally, my custom 9mm Colt 1911 had a lot of reliability problems but thank God they are now history. Regards, Richard:)

+2 on realoading. Light bullets and right powders and whoila your 45ACP feels much lighter than 9mm. Bigger holes make higher score on paper. There are tons of cast lead bullets cheap like borscht.
