My gun has trouble chambering any round sother than ball. They seem to hang up entering barrel. New to sport . Any suggestions on where to start trouble shooting issue . I think a new barrel may help.

Any help will be appreciated

... Most likely the FEED RAMP needs a little polishing ... Try that before you go out and spend money on a new barrel ! ( Recommend you have a Gunsmith do the job ) .... David K.

The 1911 pistol was designed for ball ammo.
Some varieties of the breed digest ammo other than ball with varying degrees of success.

Stock pistols can usually be helped by feed-ramp and chamber/throat smoothing.

Some magazines can also be an issue.

2 cents.

Before you do anything get a good magazine( Wilson, Shooting Star, Pachmyer) , and try the same ammo. In a semiauto, if you have problems start with the magazine , the usual culprit and the least expensive, then when you are satisfied the mag is not the problem try something else. Also if it is a Chinese clone ,even though the guns are pretty good for the price ( I have 2), the magazines are not the best. Most of the dealers at the top of the page ,have .45 mags for 1911's. Also this " troubleshooting " section is more for trouble shooting computer problems , you may get more people giving ideas if you post a problem like this in the Gunsmithing section or in the Pistol section. Hope the suggestions help.

My Para used to choke on lead rounds due to machining marks on the feed ramp - a quick polish na dno more problems! Take a good look - even very slight markings can have an impact on feeding reliability.

i have found this during many custom builds.
solution #1 - try a quality magazine
solution #2 - have your barrel throated and feed ramps widened and polished......
I'm willing to bet that the problem may still exist after trying option #1..... so i would skip it and go right to having the barrel throated ect.
this issue is common with many out of the box "non custom" 1911 guns.

free bore too short

Hello 1000gsxr, I have a Colt Gold Cup National Match series 70 .45, it gave me problems jamming(not going to battery actually, which means the round doesn't fully get into chamber/slide stays back a hair) and a good gunsmith at BRRC looked at it and found that the free bore needed to be lengthened a bit.Now I can feed it anything and it fires.I guess the Gold cup's have such tight tolerances thet it needed tweaking. Good Luck! Sgt.Rock
