I took my new to me Combat Commander out today and to my delight it was accurate and even fed 185gr flatnose bullets.
While cleaning it, the link pin just fell out.

Is there room in there for it to work loose?

I'm going to order pin and link set from kings. It's my understanding that you should use the biggest link possible for a better lockup that still allows the slide to cycle properly.
Is this true?

It shouldn't do that.

The diameter should be .1555" (with a minimum of .1545). (Various pin sizes are available, however.) The pin should also be prick punch staked in place, three-point for loose pins, one-point for tighter pins, and the surface then stoned smooth, to avoid this very situation.
