I just got my new 1911 Norinco from Marstar today. This is one of the new batch that just came in about three weeks ago, and I must say I'm pleasantly surprised. Overall finish looks quite good with none of the machining marks I'd read about here, and everything fits nice and tight. The blueing is a bit patchy in spots but overall is pretty uniform dark blue, I'll likely parkerize it anyway. The grips are black plastic checkered , unlike the ugly brown ones in the Marstar website picture.
I havn,t got around to loading any ammo yet , but can hardly wait to get her smokin.

What model of 1911 did you get ? I know the NP-29 has better finish and more options but it costs a little bit more. I have a 1911A and a NP-29. They both are good. I want to get a 1911C but it is not available right now.

The latest Norc 1911's....

Looks like the Norinco 1911's are generally 'improving' with every new batch...

One day in the future they will have improved so much & be so good that they will even come with a paper that attests to the quality of the steel used to make them - then even capp325 will buy one... :p

piper394, looks be damned the 'rincos shoot and shoot well. You can always tidy up the looks at a later date. I have a bunch of 1911s and i would be just as happy if they were all 'rincos. Regards, Richard:D

Frankly, the finish on the new shipment Norcs are still terrible, in my opinion. People think that they are good because they had been horrible in the past, and people don't expect a perfect gun with that price tag.

Most Norcs had a decent polishing job on the slides. However tools marks are still obvious on the frame, especially around the trigger guard area. And tool marks are wide and deep everywhere on the inside the frame. If you do a detail strip, you will find that some parts such as MSH and the back side of the frame are very rough.

And dimensions of parts vary, too. My personal experience is that the same set of Wilson Combat drop-in parts (sear & trigger) fit into one Norc perfectly without alternation, but does not fit into another Norc at all without removing metal.

I have also experienced a perfect good smooth trigger pull on a Norc right out of the box, but another Norc with a terrible 80 lb trigger which does not improve at all after break in. This was why I was replacing the trigger & sear & hammer etc.

In a word, Norcs are good value guns, and they are pretty accurate and reliable. But we have been giving them too much praise than they deserve.

On an econo 1911 I'd be less concerned with "looks" and more concerned with "function"... brand new Norc shipped to Gunnar at Armco for a dehorning & smoothing... brand new set of Pachmayr wraparounds... and voila yer in business. ;)
