Hi Folks,

I'm thinking about getting a 1911 in 9mm. I"ve looked around at what's available from our favorite dealers and here's what I've found:

STI Trojan 9mm

Not much else. I'd prefer something with a Commander length barrel but can't find anything.

I don't know all that much about 1911 type guns and I don't want to make any assumptions. So, here's what I'd like to know:
Will a 9mm 1911 use pretty much the same parts as a .45 ?

Thanks, Steve

First, STI has a Commander length 9mm 1911 called the Ranger. I havn't seen any for sale yet in Canada and it seems like there are some reliability issues according to www.1911forum.com.
The 9mm/38super 1911's have a different breechface than the .45acp so the slides are not interchangable.
Also mags are different obviously and the ejector and extractor are slightly different.
Most other parts are interchangable but some manufacturers have differences they have designed in.
I am not an expert and there could be other stuff I'm not aware of.

Sorry if this is a dumb question but I'm waiting on a transfer of a 38super series 80 Colt Commander... will the grips off a colt gov't size gun fit it? Or are they too large? I want to put some fancier grips on it. Thanks alot!

You don't mention having an aversion to Norinco products.... The NP29 is a full sized 1911 pattern 9mm. I recently acquired one, and wrote a review of my impressions of the pistol. If you do a search for "NP29" and "tiriaq", I'm sure you will find it. About 300 rds have now been put through the pistol; it is a good shooter, and I've no regrets about buying it.

Just about everything in the frame is the same except the dustcover, which is slightly longer on a full size 1911.
Grips are the same, so go shopping! Also, on a .38super, you can get a 9mm barrel and it should work even with .38super mags. You might have to do some tweaking with recoil springs an such.

I believe they're sold out.
