Ok, I am completely stumped.
I have a 1911 .45 and it just will not f**king soot
It is a Caspian stainless and when i shoot it, the first shot always feels relatively desent, but for all shots after the trigger pull suddenly seizes up so bad sometimes I can't even pull the trigger at all without removing the clip, jacking out the round, and reloading. The trigger is so speratic in its pull that obviously I cant hit the broad side of a barn.
I have done everything I can think of:
-bran new Wilson complete spring kit
-Bran new Wilson disconnector, sear, and extractor
-carefull honing/smoothing of components, trigger, and area on reciever around the trigger
-several days of soaking in a CLP bath and intense cleanings
-trials with various types of ammunition and magazines.
-Finally gave up and took it to Rick at Alberta Tactical; he tried a few things and sent it back. It worked for the first magazine, then went all f**ky again right after.

NOTHING has made any difference to its performance and I just dont know what to do with it.:(

Any help?

I`ll take that piece of crap off your hands for lets say $100 bucks.
No no don`t thank me it`s just the kind of guy I am.

Seriously though, if you are in Ontario try Roger Kotanko he is a great guy and a hell of a gunsmith or as suggested send it to Gunner.

Hicaliber, bclinehand, don't be so freaking cheap! I'll offer 125, tops.
Jolly, when this happens, does the thumb safety seem to opperate OK ? Also, check the clearance of the trigger bow and the mag/mag well.

If I read your post correctly, It could be that the hammer hooks aren't bearing evenly on the sear, or the hammer hooks are badly oversquare.( Pulling the sear deeper into the hooks with pressure)

uuuhhh, thanks for the generous:rolleyes: offer, but i think I'll pass. LOL

How do you mean? Like if its pushed in so that it archs inwards in the well?

So do you think filing them to be a little shallower angle be a good idea? what angle should they be at?

thanks guys

Heck, I might be willing to give up to 150$, and that should include shipping as well as any and all accessories for the gun.

I would have a good squint at the grip safety. If you remove it you can see the sear, disconnector and spring working and you may be able to see something amiss.

The action will function without the grip safety, as it only blocks the back of the trigger bow. If the action works fine then the safety may be your problem.

It should look like this:

It should work like this:

I am not a gunsmith, but it doesn't hurt to haul it apart and eyeball it yourself. The website above should keep you out of trouble.

Good luck.

Hey, haul it apart, take some pics and post 'em - should be fun.

Not much to add to what's above (all good info) except - have you had anyone else try shooting it?

Do they have the same problem?

A few times, I've had someone with an odd grip or trigger press that has caused an issue that can't be duplicated by me when I shot it. The only way I was able to determine a fix for them was to be there watching the guy shoot the gun.

an easy way to check if it is the grip safety or your grip is to take electrical tape and tape down the grip safety (ie. deactivate it) if teh problem goes away then your grip is likely the problem. One of teh problems with the deep grip we tend to use is that it applies force to the wrong end of the grip safety.

If you don't have a fixture don't play with the sear, trigger or hammer! Unless you really want to buy new ones. Sounds more like there are engagement issues in the works somewhere. Gunnar as mentioned or the Ontario fellow. This is not a home fixer anymore, it could easily move from this problem to doubling or worse, erratic dropping of the hammer.

Right on! DON'T start altering hammer or sear angles :) Although it's hard to diagnose something like this by long distance I really suspect the grip safety. It's well worth the $100 or so it will cost you to get it to a professional, but first try to see if the trigger pull feels better with the grip safety off the gun.

7X61 who just posted would be an ideal candidate to fix up your problem. The work coming out of his shop is first rate, or I wouldn't send my work there!

Not only that, he's got time to talk with you, make suggestions and recomendations. Thats a huge change from a lot of smiths, who seem to just want you to drop work off and leave them alone.
