I recently bought a new 1911 (Kimber) and didn't like the 'plastic' mainspring housing so I bought a new Smith & Alexander for it.

I put the gun back together but now the hammer will not click (stay cocked). What am I doing wrong?

Did you install the mainspring, it's plunger, and the keeper pin OK? Does it move freely? Is the mainspring strut centered in the depression at the center?

Yes to all of the above. The hammer will pull back as normal when the gun is assembled but will not ####. If you pull back the hammer to #### it and let it go it just falls forward.

Reinstall the original part and see if it works. If it does then something is wrong with the new part.... and work from there......

I think you have the ser spring out of place. The main spring is there to drive the hammer forward. the sear spring is there to mak the sear follow the ark on the hammer and to push the sear into place. That is the click you hear. Make sure the small hock at the bottom of the sear spring is in its slot before you put the S&A back strap back in.
