Here is my first 1911 build/rebuild. It was a tremendous learning experience and I am very pleased with the end result and wanted to share with CGN'ers. What follows is a list of parts and work performed and shouts out to those who helped me to get this done.
Also, I realize that I went and messed with a perfectly fine and not that easy to find gun. I decided I wanted to have something at the end of the day that I wanted to own, so I started with a quality pistol. Also, I realize that I spent way more on this than it will ever be worth . . .
- Frame and slide are Springfield GI (purchased used on the EE one year ago). These are the only original parts on the gun. They were a loose GI-type fit. I successfully tightened and hand-lapped the slide/frame. Result is ball-bearing smooth and no play.
- Hand checkered front strap (25 lpi)
- Jo Dlask did the Novak sight cuts, lowered and flared the ejection port
- Sights are Heinie slant pro (serrated rear, tritium front)
- Barrel and bushing is an Ed Brown and was hand fit to the frame, slide and lapped in to the slide stop. Barrel lockup is as tight as I've seen, my Sig 1911 comes close.
- Wilson safeties (hand fit)
- STI trigger, Ed Brown sear, disconnector, hammer, trigger pull at 3.5 lbs
- Wilson ETM mags
- Custom Desert Ironwood grips (Sarge's Grips)
- Other components all Brown Hardcore and Wilson Bulletproof
- Arma-Coat Nitron finish on everything but barrel
I did test fire prior to refinishing, but I'll take it out to the range later this week and see how it runs and hits.
Here comes the pics.
