Here is my first 1911 build/rebuild. It was a tremendous learning experience and I am very pleased with the end result and wanted to share with CGN'ers. What follows is a list of parts and work performed and shouts out to those who helped me to get this done.

Also, I realize that I went and messed with a perfectly fine and not that easy to find gun. I decided I wanted to have something at the end of the day that I wanted to own, so I started with a quality pistol. Also, I realize that I spent way more on this than it will ever be worth . . .

- Frame and slide are Springfield GI (purchased used on the EE one year ago). These are the only original parts on the gun. They were a loose GI-type fit. I successfully tightened and hand-lapped the slide/frame. Result is ball-bearing smooth and no play.
- Hand checkered front strap (25 lpi)
- Jo Dlask did the Novak sight cuts, lowered and flared the ejection port
- Sights are Heinie slant pro (serrated rear, tritium front)
- Barrel and bushing is an Ed Brown and was hand fit to the frame, slide and lapped in to the slide stop. Barrel lockup is as tight as I've seen, my Sig 1911 comes close.
- Wilson safeties (hand fit)
- STI trigger, Ed Brown sear, disconnector, hammer, trigger pull at 3.5 lbs
- Wilson ETM mags
- Custom Desert Ironwood grips (Sarge's Grips)
- Other components all Brown Hardcore and Wilson Bulletproof
- Arma-Coat Nitron finish on everything but barrel

I did test fire prior to refinishing, but I'll take it out to the range later this week and see how it runs and hits.

Here comes the pics.

Very impressive indeed! Love the grips. And the open razor seems somehow fitting as that would have been the depilatory-du-jour back in 1911.
I bet old JMB had no idea what a timeless classic his basic military pistol would become or what people would do with it.

Thanks everyone!

Took it to the range. Ran through 100 handloads with no stoppages and wow is this pistol accurate. I captured my best group below 10 yds offhand (185 Gr Berry over 5.6 gr of Hodgdon HP38). It is a real pleasure to shoot!

Thanks all.

Tough to say: ended up taking months to complete. I took it very slowly and researched every step carefully, then bought the tools and parts needed and moved forward. If I build another it would go a lot faster. It was really very enjoyable building it.

I was pretty excited when the first 8 rounds went through it without any issues and also happened to hit where I had aimed them. It is really wonderful to shoot, heavy, smooth, accurate.
