Hey guys,

I was reassembling my new norc 1911 yesterday, and for some reason when I was trying to put the recoil spring in it was incredibly difficult to put back in all of a sudden... I wasn't sure if it was normal or not, it is just the stock 16# spring, so I took the gun back apart and it was much easier to put the spring in the second time.

My question is, what could of caused the recoil to be super hard to put back in the gun all of a sudden, and could I have damaged anything? My theory is that I (stupidly) didn't make sure the slide stop was put through the barrel link, and the barrel was too far forward... I must not of noticed the barrel sticking out of the bushing a few centimeters

Any insight would be appreciated, don't plan on making this mistake again, but just want to know if I could of broken anything...

Thanks!

Check the ends of the spring. I'll bet you find that on one end the coils are wound to a slighly smaller internal diameter and on the other end the spring is either just cut or the coils are slightly larger for the internal diameter. You'll find that you can install the tight end by "screwing" the spring on as if you were turning in a wood screw. That action opens up the coil a little and it slips into place more easily. To take it off turn it in the "tightening" direction while pulling out. If you try to "unscrew" the spring it'll grab onto the pin like a chinese finger puzzle.

If the recoil spring guide is not straight, the spring can catch on the end
and not slide over it. Then the spring is very hard to depress.
I either twist the spring or move the pistol a bit to get the recoil spring
to go over the guide.

Agree with this. The spring got caught. Everything is fine.
