I got my first pistol, a 1911, and one thing I noticed is that the rifling is not as pronounced as a rifle, just really faint grooves. I'm new to the world of pistols and it would make sense that rifling would not be as prounounced but it almost seems non existant compared to what I am used to and just want to make sure that this is normal or isn't.

Thanks

It depends on which rifle you're comparing it to. I've seen both rifles and handguns with very prominent difference in height from lands to grooves. I've also seen both rifles and handguns with fairly shallow difference from land to groove.

Handguns don't develop the pressures found in rifles, the bullets also have thinner jackets. As such, they typically don't require heavy rifling to stabilize bullets.

Thanks for the responses. In my googling last night I stumbled upon a 1911 forum and read on there that rifling on a 1911 .45 auto is about the thickness of a piece of paper. So between that and your responses I feel better now thanks, now to get to the range:D
