Looking for thoughts and/or help.

Bought a norC .45 1911 commander and had a trigger job done by a reputable gunsmith. Trigger pull is about 2-2 1/2 lbs. gun functions fine, EXCEPT for the safety. It was fine when I first got it, but now after about 150 rounds it no longer works.

Symptoms:

I load the gun, put on the safety and when I pull the trigger, the safety drops down and the gun fires.

Any ideas or thoughts?

Thanks

Same thing happened to me with a 1911 Llama. Send it back to the smith for correction.

same thing happened to mine, but i just assumed it was my fault as i did the trigger job. it's a poorly machined safety, i would buy a new one, but i don't care about it as i can't carry it and don't compete.

at least it looks bad compared to higher end ones i've seen.

I'd send it back to your gunsmith to have them look at it. If they're reputable, he should fix it. If he refuses, find another gunsmith.

If you're 100% comfortable and familiar stripping your 1911 you can try this, remove the slide, remove the mainspring housing pin but without fully removing the mainspring housing, remove the thumb safety and the grip safety, now replace the thumb safety and pin back the mainspring housing so the hammer is back under tension. Look thru the grip safety area into the frame and see if the thumb safety overlaps the sear. #### the hammer all the way back and engage the thumb safety and see if the thumb safety is engaging/disengaging the sear.

Smith, smith, smith. His responsibility. Maybe you can fix it your self. If you cannot, then the smith will no longer be responsible, as you've tinkered with it.
