Hi all. So I have a Colt 1911 MKIV Series 80 Combat Elite from about 1993. Was at the range today and the slide stopped locking back on the last round. Got home and took it apart to clean it and it looks like the slide lock broke, a little piece on the inside that contacts the magazine sheered off. A very small amount can barely see it. Any suggestions on where to source a good replacement part? Should I go with a genuine Colt part? Also what may have caused this to happen? Thanks in advance!! :)

Brownells if they still ship to Canada. Anyone is fine but may need a slight tweaking.
It was probably just old I would imagine.

Did it look like this [the stainless one on the right]:

You could also put up a WTB ad in EE Pistols parts & accs. No doubt someone will have a spare in the parts box.

Yup!!! Looks just like that ! Thanks for the photo comparison. I guess they must just wear out!
Funny story on that group of photos I posted..... many years ago, in a much earlier incarnation of CGN, I put up a WTB ad in the then EE for a 1911/1911A1 slide stop. A member PM'd me to say he had a stainless one. Deal was reached & I EMT'd him the $$ for it.

Awhile later that one arrived, just as is, broken. The little tab obviously missing. I msg'd the seller about it & he claimed "it must've broken in shipping". I replied well, if that was true, wouldn't the little broken off piece still be in the box with it? Anyway, he wouldn't refund my $$ unless I shipped it back first. With tracking cost me $10. He only refunded the original amount. So, out the $10, I think that is only 1 of a couple negative trader ratings I've ever had to leave. Too bad it arrived broken, too, as it was an original Colt slide stop. Lesson learned was, always ask for pics first!

Anyway, good luck in your search.

there's a few CGN businesses that probably carry a 1911 slide stop. Maybe not OEM colt but quality parts do exist in Canada without the need to deal with customs by ordering from brownells or numrich. But if OEM is what yer after, you might have to cross border shop.

Ok ya thanks that’s a good suggestion. Also is this in any way affected by the handgun freeze or ban ? I’ve never really researched if and what handgun parts you can still buy or sell…..

receivers, slides, magazines and barrels now require license verification but otherwise all the other parts are unregulated as of this time

You shouldn’t have any problems ordering out of country and getting it through customs. I do find that anything from the states gets opened by customs most times. And they bill the $10 for opening it. Haven’t had any gun parts opened coming from other countries for some stupid reason.

Red Deer Shooting Ctr has Nighthawk Custom 1911 parts in stock. They ship too. Stainless or carbon steel, bright/blued/phosphated… your choice.

I use them for parts for my stuff.
