Hi,

I got a les baer custom 1911 in 9mm.
The pistol sometime fail to lock the slide on the last round. I have compare the slide stop with my other les baer in 45 and they are identical...
So i orderd a 10-8 performance 9mm slide stop.

I have try to tune my mags. its better but not perfect. The leg on the slide stop seem to short to engage adequately the follower.

The description say that some minor fitting are sometime required.
I have look online but i dont find any how to which detail what to look for.

Any input? Can i just drop the part and try it or i can damge something?

thank you!

Check that the mag release is holding the mags high enough up in the gun. Try a temporary mag swap with another 9mm 1911 shooter to verify it's not the brand of mags you're using. Maybe also compare slide stops.

Go ahead and install it and try it. If the problem is still there, as others have said, try a different mag; or since extra mags are always good; buy a new, good quality mag (such as Mec-Gar). If the slide stop is too long and needs fitting, the bullets in the mag will force it up and it will lock the slide open before the mag is empty. If it still will not hold the mag open, then it may be a tolerance stack-up issue between the frame and the slide stop. This was a frequent issue with some Noriinco 1911 .45 pistols (I have one); I bought two additional chrome Remington Mags (I think Mec-Gar builds these for Remington) and still had the same issue. I ended up building the end of the mag release up with Tig weld, hand working the end with diamond files checking clearance and function with a mag with a dummy round in it. Once I was happy, I cold blued it; oiled it up, and have had zero issues since, and I shoot it a lot.

Since that time, I have done this for close to 10 other people who experienced the same problem.

Thank you for your input.

I have the 2 stock mags and 6 other tripp cobra mags.
I tried to bend the follower leg. it help but not 100%.

My new slide stop is supposed to be here soon. I let you know.

If the new stop does the trick, send me a message; I can build up your old one no charge. Since I don't have a 9mm 1911 to fit it in, I would rough form it, and you can do the finish fitting. Stuff like this keeps my precision TIG welding up to snuff (I don't get into the die shop as often now that I am in the Engineering department). LOL.
