Just wondering if there's a special way of putting the 1911 back together?? More specifically, when you put the slide stop back in, and the little pin from the safety is in the way.

I used the tip of a pencil to push it in with the slide stop sitting in the groove forward most, then pushed slide forward, and it popped in. The previous attempt gave me the newbie scuff line.

Am I missing something??

I just use a very small flat screwdriver to hold back the pin and then push the stop in.

Seems very easy to me. I'm not sure how people manage to get the "newbie scratch"

Brownells sells a tool made by Marvel for depressing the safety detent. On occasion, this tool has proved useful for depressing the slide stop detent as well.

I've noticed the detents on the Norc 1911's stick out more than on GI or Colt 1911's. Witht he later you usually don't need anything to depress them they just dip back when the slide stop is installed. For the Norc I use a very small flat blade screwdriver. But you do have to be careful not to mar the finish.

They usually get it by dragging the inside face of the slide stop across the frame in an arc. Hence, the unmistakeable sign of the "noob scratch".... :(

I got the dummy scratch in my Norinco before i realized that depressing that tiny little pin helped alleviate that problem. Now to avoid the problem in the future, I use a toothpick to hold the pin in. Works like a hot damn and I will use it for when I get my 38Super back from Gunnar.
