One of my 1911's (an R1) has little to no take up slack on the stock trigger. Note: that's take up slack before let off, not over travel.

This precludes two fast aimed shots and rules out double taps. I have to make a conscious effort to lift my finger off the trigger to allow the sear to reset.

What's the cure?

you will have to bend the little tabs at the front of the trigger to let more space.

you can do it either by pushing the bow so they bend on the frame or remove the trigger and bend them manually

I appreciate the replies, but I thought I made it clear in my original posting that it was a "stock" trigger, but I guess some missed that. The R1 is a pretty basic 1911, if you discount the bevelled mag well, sights and dimpled/lowered ejection port.

I want to keep this one basic for SASS 'Wild Bunch'. I have another that has an adjustable trigger and an ambi safety.

Slack before (not overtravel) should not affect your shooting rapidly. If there is no slack at all, the sear might not engage during firing and the gun will auto-fire. This is dangerous. But, having a lot of slack is not advantageous or disadvantageous, as in any case you have to release the trigger for sear engagement after the slide returns to battery. Not too sure what the issue is?
