I have 3 1911's with standard grips, I have slightly smaller than average hands and really like the thin aluminum grips on my CZ Shadow, my questions are:
Are the VZ operator II grips too aggressive? which thin grip screws are best? Do I need screw bushings? Is the standard thumb cut out groove enough or is the new super cut better?
which model of VZ grip is a favorite for range guns that shoot less than 50 rounds per gun in a session?

same boat, however, may i offer an alternative? i purchased wilson combat starburst grips
about 2 months ago. very thin and the grip is great. a bit pricy... but i really thought it
was worth the investment. really well made and held up well, plus it fit my hand well.

if you're interested, i can link the ones i got. :)

I have several sets of standard thickness VZ grips; Aliens, Recons and Operator II. I find that they are all fairly aggressive, but I shoot more than 50 rounds per session.

The exterior finish for each VZ model will be the same on the thin grips. I actually removed my VZ's because they are a bit too aggressive for me and I went back to checkered wood grips...............for now!
I really like the G10 material though. So this time I am going to try out a set of either Double Diamonds, or 320s VZ's. Probably 320s.

I have a thin set of Wilson DD wood grips that I tried on one of my 1911's, I have medium hands and I found they made the grip feel a bit too narrow for me.
To install thin grips properly you will require a set of thin grip screws and bushings.

For now I've stayed with the regular slotted screws, but some of the screws VZ offer are pretty cool looking.

I have a couple of pair of VZ G10 slim Gatorbacks and I find they work great. I have smallish hands and find the slimmer
grips work better for me on the 1911 platform. The Gatorbacks are "medium" aggressive and are just right for me.
I do have a brand new extra pair and bushings that I might be willing to part with....

When in doubt, go more aggressive. You can always sand them down if they're too sharp. Not much you can do if they're not grippy enough...

If you know that you've got soft hands, then maybe go a couple notches down from "most grippy".

The super scoop option is pretty excellent, but it's personal preference in the end. It's more of a factor if you really value quick mag changes, in which case it will almost certainly speed you up (by not having to shift your grip during the reload).

Just got some recon 2 VZ's with the super scoop for my IPSC classic 1911. Very aggressive so no grip movement during competition and the super scoop allows me to hit the mag release without shifting my grip. Love it!!!!

If you find them too wide you could consider installing an STI short curve trigger in place of the standard long curve. They are supposed to work great for smaller hands.

I have a set of thin Aliens and one of thin Operators II on my 1911s. Love them both with a small advantage to the Operators II. Get the bushings and several sets of washers. I took the normal thumb notch and with my oversized mag catch, it is perfect.
