1911 tuning question

Hey, I had posted in gunsmith forum at first asking for a reference, but decided to have a go at it myself.
So far I am a few hours in and all is going good enough, I have fitted many SVI components in an STI gun. Trigger has a little prep, short reset, measured and breaks consistently at 2.5#, quite happy ;)
There is one detail I have yet to figure out.
The disconector Seems to rub on the slide hard. While cycling the gun everything goes well, but if I pull the slide back and very slowly ride it forward, it will stay open catching on the disconector. My question is, should I let it settle in on it's own or should I slightly start polishing the pointy end that contacts with slide?
 
"some" polishing never hurts.
1) Remove slide and make sure that disconnector moves freely up and down with little pressure. if not some work is needed
2) Disconnector should only protrude 1/2 its diameter as a basic guideline. You can ink it and check what the contact path looks like and actual travel.
- If you are using a mix of SV and STI parts the geometry is going to be slightly off. Ink pattern should be smooth and not "jittery"
You can also have a look at the bottom of slide and make sure there is no machining defects, some slides even high end ones can have a poor finish in this area,...easy fix as well

What I have done is I have put the factory one back in, measured and then put the SVI inand measured. SVI disconnecting was protruding 3 thou more than factory. 1000 grit sand paper took that 3 thou off.

gwesson, yeah I had spent many hours with a local guy that made me fit my upgrades myself when I was modding a ranger ll.
These platforms can be very demanding to fit parts and am comfortable doing so and am mechanically inclined. It's just when it comes to sear/disconector stuff I wish to triple check as we all heard these stories of 1911s going slam fire if you eff up these parts.
 
Check the engagement of the sear spring on the disconnector ramp. I saw a sear spring with a sharp edge on the middle leaf which was sitting ever so slightly too low (with the trigger pulled) and catch on the bottom of the disconnector.
 
Thanks, actually you put me on to something. Comparing my old disconector with new one, I noticed that the old one was polished in certain areas, ie; contact point between disconnect and trigger bow, contact point between sear spring and disconnect. Polishing the new one makes it go down much smoother now.
My slide also had a tiny burr underneat firing pin hole, on the 90 edge where the disconector top hits first. Slightly polished that one too.
Seems like these SVI parts are very sensitive to these things.
Now if I do on purpose to jam it on disconector, it only jams once out of 7-8 times. Should I look into more fine tuning or just let it wear in at this point?
