I've ordered myself an sti trojan in 9mm as I'm going to have a go at the classic division this year in ipsc. I know major is likely to be a better scorer, but I'm not a world class shooter challenging for first place's, and I have a big stockpile of 9mm I've bought during some sales. I'm looking into what types of things I should look at tweakin/upgrading when it gets here.

I know that the easy answer is shoot it and see what you like/dont like. But I'm stuck in the waiting game so in the meantime I'm trying to read up and see what else I can order while I wait for the pistol. (because some things take awhile to get it, so I'd rather figure out now to order them than later) I'm also new to the 1911 platform so any hints or tips are welcome. I'm doing all the reading I can on 1911's to keep me busy.

so far I've got coming

sti trojan - dawson fiber front sight, ambi safety, single stack magwell/main spring houseing (the slim profile one that should still be allowable for classic)

kydex holster from armordillo concealment
6 mags from tripp research
some vz grips

I've been looking for the wilson combat extended mag release (brownells looks like it has ed brown and wilson combat listed) it mentions it doesn't contain catch lock and spring, can this be used from the one I take out, or do I have to add that to my shopping list?

I'm also curious if anyone has a smith in the vancouver area they recommend for 1911 tuning? Interested in getting a trigger job and possibly some polishing of internals.

I'm starting a little late for getting setup, normally this would be done in the winter, which is why I'm looking for some suggestions to help me jump the gun.

cheers

Give Dave at Cape guns a call.Great guy to deal with and he does good work.Quite a few of the IPSC guys here use him.Ive used some of the other recommendations for gunsmiths over the years, and i keep coming back to Dave to work on my guns.

Bits of Pieces - for the hat trick. - Seriously the three mentioned who are in Greater Vancouver are probably your best bets, you won't have to ship the gun to PG. All three are capable of doing what you want done.

extended mag release

You may want to talk with some IPSC shooters and get their opinion on the ex. mag release. When I was shooting IPSC it was one of the least recommened mods to do on your 1911. Too much chance of bumping it and releasing your mag during a course of fire. However, do what ever YOU want as it is your's!!!!! The spring and catch in your stock mag release will indeed work in an extended one.

Well you have the ambi safety covered, so if it was my pistol i would get a trigger job and have that stupid grip safety pinned.
Being that you want your pistol work done local i would agree with others to get ahold of Dave at Cape.
