Hey there.
I I bought an RIA 1911 45acp recently for my son and I'm looking at doing a few upgrades.
I know its probably cheaper to just buy one with the upgrades, but he wanted a bright nickel gun,so here I am.
I'm looking at removing front staked sight and replacing with an adjustable set.
And upgrading the trigger.
Anybody able to reccomend a gunsmith on the East Coast ?

Thanks

Usually it'd be an adjustable rear sight that you'd adjust to sight the gun in, with the front sight (that has to survive going deeper into the holster and not snag coming out) being fixed. The popular front sight upgrade is more often a fibre optic one, to make it easier to quickly find and line up with the notch in the back sight.

I bought a cheap slightly Norinco 1911A1 and spent another $250 on a bunch of upgrades to make it a really nice shooter. It's got Dlask recoil and firing pin springs along with a light weight Dlask trigger. Replaced the sear, hammer and beavertail with Wilson Combat parts and the main spring and sear spring were replaced with Wolf and IMSI ones (ordered many of the parts from Brownell's which was cheaper and arrived quickly). But the big thing was doing a polish of all the parts to really improve the trigger weight and feel. Oh, and I added Hogue grips. So for about $550 all in it's quite nice and it wasn't hard to do the upgrades and trigger job yourself. Just be careful and gentle polishing the sear and hammer. Next up is to upgrade the sights at some point. I need to see if I can find someone to cut a dovetail for the front if possible as it has a staked sight.
