I'm in the market for handgun, and have been dreaming of owning 1911 for a long time. What are some of the brand name 1911 Manufacturer/Custom-builder that are in demand these days? Would appreciate specific model names, that are maybe being picked up by military or LE, and what makes them different... just want to gather intel about 1911. :runaway:

The Strength of the design is that it is almost a hundred years old everybody and thier dog is making them and there is a ton of aftermarket parts that you can dress it up however you like.

A specific manufacturer/builder in demand. Well.....

I shoot ipsc and there you see 1911 from sti, Para, colt, everybody.

I have noticed that even on the bottom of the price range with a norinco they work and work well. The difference between an sti and a norc is in the shooter not in the gun.

I'll sell you my TRP Operator for 1650 plus shipping!

Good pistol I just dont use it.

However, If I was shopping for 1911 I would buy STI.

Hey D_,

If I get the job I am hoping to I'll take it off your hands...

But I can't make any promises, so I'll just shut the hell up now. :D

It is a lot of fun to customize a 1911 - change it to whatever look/combination you prefer, so your 1911 is unique, different from any other pistol in the world. And change again, and again.

1911 fans usually own at least 2 of them: a better gun tuned to be a good shooter, and a cheaper gun that you can do whatever you want to do with it, like a toy...

Nighthawk I have heard a lot of good stuff about. They are said to back up thier product 100% and are more than happy to make any mods to a pistol you want. But they are pricey.

Caspian I have heard of, but I haven't heard anything about them good or bad (which is kinda wierd). Although I did see a Caspian damascus steel slide for a 1911 on one gunsmith websight. Stunning was not quite a good enough word to describe it.

I think it all depends upon the kind of shooting you want to do with it. For example, I am interested in defensive and tactical shooting and would look towards the workhorse pistols and rifles for the most part.

IPSC shooters tend to be more interested in race guns for thier thing.

The first question should be what you want to do with it, then go from there.
