I got an old Enfield that has been slashed cut and raped. I'm just going to Cold Zinc Spray it and throw something on for paint and use if for a Mud Stick, truck gun seal club. I just want to make sure that these markings are not something special and I'm ruining a piece of History more so already.

Pictures are huge and high quality I didn't re-size them so that we could see the markings better.

first thats not a 1917 enfield (or Model 17)

thats a fairly run of the mill No1MkIII* manufacured at RSAF Enfield in 1916.

nothing really special about it, may still be restorable if not cut drilled or tapped for a scope.

Your SMLE is close to mine in regards to production year and serial number. It looks like they went different paths but both ended up having the BNP proofs applied. If I remember correctly, these were applied post WW2 in Britain before allowing the rifles to be sold outside of military service.

Many of the picture you show illustrate Enfield inspector proof marks (crown over EFD over inspector number) along with British military acceptance marks (GR crossed flags over P) and firing proofs.

If bubba hasn't got his hands on your rifle, you may wish to restore her to full military configuration. A bit of 0000 steel wool, some q tips, and some love and care, and you can bring her back.

Bubba had his hands on it long ago, That's why I am going to make her into a truck gun, mud stick seal club, That can get dropped outta the truck, outta a tree and into a swamp and I won't care all too much lol.

Stock has been bubba'd as well, Trying to find idea to make a newer one, or at least a new Butt Stock for it,

Thanks!

Post a pic of the overall rifle as well as a pic of the muzzle. We can then tell you if it is Restoration eligible or not. The most common job that bubba did was to simply cut back the full stock, and if the barrel is un touched, you can restore it. IF not, then go nutz, if so, you could clean it up, but a proper dress on her, and have it as military config shooter and overall conversation piece.

Restoring these things is a pretty neat hobby if you like History. It will also let you gain some knowledge into how these things work, military guns, particularly the Enfield, behaved quite differently then sporter guns.

If Bubba has gotten to the barrel already.......I saw a company in the states that sells a Bullpup stock kit for the sks:D......with a little modification I'll bet the Enfield could be made to fit:p........a couple of tacticool flashlights/strobe lights......period correct bayo though, anything else would be tacky.....and you'll be the coolest dude:D.....your friends will all talk.....you might even get a girlfriend!!f:P:......all kidding aside, thanks for the pics.cool old Enfield.....but it coooould be cooooler:D
