A business aquaintence of mine offered to give me a 1916 mauser that he assures me is in excellent condition. His wife just wants it gone. Sounds allright to me. The problem is that he does not know how, but during a move a few years back the bolt was misplaced and he thinks it may have wound up in the dump. He is going to search for it again but thinks its probably gone for good. The question I have is, how hard will it be to find a bolt for a rifle of this age? Will it even be possible without buying a second rifle that might have other problems? I dont have any other info other than the make and year at this point but I will have it on monday. I will verify the make and model on Monday and repost looking for the part needed, but if any of you guys know that this will be either easy or hard, please let me know.
I am not going to turn down a free piece of history regardless but I would sure like to get her going.

Cheers

A small ring mauser bolt should be easily found. You didn't say what model it was? I'm assuming it's a 1916 Spanish Mauser. Sometimes these small ring mausers were re-barreled to 7.62 x 51 (well, sort of a lower pressure Spainish version of the cartridge) FYI - I sold once such rifle whose chamber was enlarged because the former owner shot nato 7.62 out of it. You should comfirm the caliber before spending too much money. I sold my entire rifle off to a gunsmith for parts valued at $75.00

He did say it was 7.62 so I am thinking its Spanish as well. So far the rifle is free so if I have to spend a couple of bucks to get it working, im ok with that.
