I just received my 1916 mauser and am trying to find out some background info on it. Here is a list of the markings.

All parts have the same three numbers that are on the end of the serial number. There are crowns on just about everything with some having those three end numbers on them.

There is an MB before the serial number.

A crown with a C under it.

There is a medallion in the stock with some numbers and Torped Overslag in it.

As you can tell I am not familiar with mausers, and insight would be appreciated. I will post pictures just for fun tonight after work.

I just want to know where it was made and what calibre it shoots as it is not marked anywhere. And yes I will be taking to a gunsmith for those of you who will invariably tell me to do so.

Thanks.

Sounds like an M96 Swede Mauser. Is the bolt handle bent down, or is it straight? what is the overall barrel length? It's either an original M96, or one converted to M38 pattern circa WW2.

Thanks. The question about the bolt is a good one. In fact I dont have the bolt. It was gifted to me by an old timer and his wife had thrown out the bolt by accident years ago during a move. That is why I need to know what it is, so I can get one. It is in great shape and I would like to fire it so I need to track down a bolt and get the head space checked so I can fire it.

If any one knows where to find one or may have one to sell please pm me.

thanks.
