My grandpa is passing down a an old WWI 9mm Luger to me, and from what I can tell from looking online its a 1917 DWM Artillery Luger, with holster and butt stock. It seems to be working fine, the trigger pulls and the firing pin clicks. I have only dry fired it once or twice as i hear its bad to dry fire lugers.

Anyways, Got a couple questions

1. just wondering how rare these are/whats the worth on em? I would never think of selling it as its been in my family for 3 generations, just curious.

2. When he transfers it to me, is it classified as a restricted firearm? I am unaware of how many rounds the mag holds, im assuming less than 10.

thanks.

1. Condition and matching parts command a premium, non matching and poor condition not so much. Pictures and a quick description would help some of the more knowledged Luger collectors around here ballpark it for you.

2. Bah how did I miss it being an artillery, should be restricted.

Now for a truly fun artillery experience look around for a trommel (snail) magazine and have a legal 33 round pistol magazine. These of course are collectors items and command a bit more premium due to them being one of the only 33 round legal magazines, but are o-so-much fun.

I dont actually have possession of the gun yet, going to transfer it tomorrow. When I do gain possession I will post pics on here. I'm very excited to see what kind of condition this gun is in. I have seen it myself, and it appears to be in good, working order, but I am not an expert.
