1917 Webley & Scott No 2 Mk "I" launcher

Just wondering what I have here and how to feed it.
Tennis balls seem to fit nicely in the 64mm business end while the charge side is approximately 40mm dia.


Slater web site has one six thousand lower in serial number and indicates for smokeR

It is. 2 1/2 inch diameter.

Charge side, most likely 37mm.

The bigger end was necessary to accommodate a parachute flare also.

This is the kind of thing that made night infantry patrols very very dangerous I believe.

The charge side measures 40mm with my vernier calipers... ...is the charge available anywhere, either surplus or new?

Likely the same smoke grenade used on tanks. You won't find real ammo for that outside a collection.
You might be able to have a chamber sleeve made to take 12 gauge field trial blanks though. Winchester makes 'em. Called Popper Loads. They run about $30Cdn per 25. 12 gauge only. Great fun out of a pump gun. snicker.
