1919 caliber conversion

You will need timing gauges. The MG is very simple, you just need the right gauge. sorry I do not have it. Some here do shoot the 8x63 swed in the 1919.

-open up the T slot on the bolt so the 8mm cartridge base slides through the t with little resistance. I used valve lapping compound on a 30-06 dummy round and spun it with a drill until the 8mm went through nicely.
-open up the booster (barrel bearing)to .750". You might want to find a replacement booster so you don't bugger up your 30-06 booster. If you find a surplus Cdn booster, by knocking out the 308 adapter in the end, you will be left with a 308 hole.
-install a 8mm barrel and set your timing as you would normally. As a rough guide, turn the barrel all the way in with the breech block held back slightly. Then start clicking in until the breech will go forward. Then add two more clicks.
-go crazy. The 8mm works great and it's cheap. You can click the barrel out another click or two if needed.

I also had to dremmel the feed tray a hair longer as the 8x63 bullet tips with just rubbing and jamming

I used a 308 booster which i knocked the bushing out and its run WAY better then a 30.06 booster

the slot on my bolt was a-OK and i did not need to open it up

I was poping my top cover repeadtly but that was due to useing a 30.06 booster

I can run a full 250 rnd belt rapid fire with out a jam (gun smokes real god after that!!!)

as for headspace I screw the barrel in till bolt wont close screw it out till it closes then out 1 more click make yourself the easy adjust spring (its on 1919a4.com its just your spring filed to a point this way its one handed headspaceing

the 8x63 is corroseive so i take my whole 1919 apart and tooss it in the laundry tub and spray with CLP overnight then clean

hardest part is finding a 8mm barrel I have the chamber reamer (that im selling brand NEW)

Getting 8X63 ammo could be an issue now......Word is Marstar is sold out.....

I still have a "few" left for personal use.

Maybe somebody will import more....not likely though.

Russ...

Sold out already?! I ordered some a month ago, and they told me there was a ton left, about 3/4 of a shipping container or something like that. I specifically asked if they would sell out any time soon, and they actually laughed at me!

So who bought the rest of the container:D?

Seems like different tolerances on each gun. Mine needed no modification, but my bolt most certainly did. Of course, the 308 cartridge guides had to be removed.

I too have a 8X63 reamer, and used it only once. Thats going to be a hard sell if you can't source that ammo anymore. The last importation was a mistake, I can't see anyone importing it on purpose just to have to firesale it out.

well ill call monday and see for sure!

if they are out marstar you know there is a demand for cheap ammo for the 1919's get more if you can!!!!

that cal cant really be in big worldwide demand.......

A ton is only about 22,000 rounds. I know cause thats how much I brought home the first time in my Honda.

haha, not a literal ton or a tonne? I can't believe it's all gone already!

I've been pulling mine down for reloading components. Anyone have use for the primed cases? Or any idea what 1,000 primed cases are worth as scrap?

Live primed cases would be worth nothing as scrap. You would be better off burning them than spending the time depriming them for the $1.70 a pound you will get for scrap brass.

They might be good to make blanks out of. A guy could add powder then crimp the ends.

Are you bringing in berdan primers to go with those dies?

The swede brass is not reloader friendly.....Unless it's still primed.
