Hey all, i'm in need for infos/ideas. My grand-dad just passed away last week. he liked gun/rifles etc. I would like to have some kind of 'souvenir'. i'd like to find a 1923 rifle; the date of his birth. i like mosins, lees and others but i would like to have others ideas on what type of rifle i could get. He didn't go to war at all so any 'side' is ok for me. the important factor here is the date : 1923. i would like it to be a shooter. something clean, but not a show piece or safe queen. please enlighten me.

Something of excellent quality you shouldn't be afraid to take out and play with would be a Swedish Mauser. Rifles from that year are out there, it's just a matter of maximizing your exposure to the market (gun shows are your friend).

One small point, you are likely going to have a harder time finding a milsurp from 1923 as generally speaking most nations weren't producing many rifles at that period in time. The Great War had just finished and most nations had more rifles than they knew what to do with. Other nations were busy buying up the excess to arm there smaller militaries.

Mosin Nagants, there are some with that date, however not a ton. As mentioned Swedish Mausers. You might be able to find a Czech Mauser made in 1923 (either the Gewehr 98 copies they made or the VZ-23s).

I wish you the best of luck, just going to be a difficult year to buy one for.

What about a commercial gun from that era? There's pretty good records for some manufacturers, you could find a 1923 Winchester 94 or Model 12 or Savage 99 or something similar. Might be more appropriate if he was a hunter / target shooter.
