I was at Wholesale today and picked up a very nice 1934 Mosin, but it has a hexigonal receiver. I thought only pre 1930 had hex receivers? Anyway, its in great shape compared to the others they had so I brought it home. For $153.00 I didn't think I could go wrong.

Izhevsk went to round receivers in '35 and Tula in '36. You might find a few later than that due to rebuilding or the using up of old parts.
When you take the action off the stock for cleaning, look at the underside of the tang for the arsenal and date stamp. You'll see if the receiver is original to the rifle or if it's a later barrel on an earlier receiver.
