Well, I had tables at the Canora show this weekend. Sales were very slow, but had lots of time for visiting. Right near the end of the show, I went and sat with a fellow that was selling a bunch of stuff that belonged to his father. None of the guns were very clean, but I noticed one sporter K98 that looked interesting. The barrel, bolt, action all match, lots of eagles etc stamped all over the steel. I bought it and hope to find a stock that will be close to bringing the old rifle back to its intended appearance.
The metal is quite good, considering the lack of care that the guns on that table had. The floorplate doesn't match, which leads me to think that the stock maybe came from some other rifle. I'll need to give the rifle a good cleaning and post some pics of the stamps.
