I picked up this rifle a few months ago and have been meaning to post pictures for some time.

The stock and barrel bands are incorrect and non-matching and I believe are from a later war K98, but the remainder of the rifle matches (Bolt, mag floorplate, extractor, mag follower, rear sight base, sight, and slider, striker, safety, etc...).

The bore is very good, showing only very minor frosting in the grooves and with sharp rifling remaining. I have not shot this rifle. Not that I'd be opposed to it, I just haven't had the chance.

Does anyone know why the wz is struck out? Other than that, all markings (Polish and German) remain intact. Also, the "GERMANY" stamp on the barrel leads me to believe that this rifle was commercially exported from Germany at some point?

There is what appears to be a remnant of a rack number or something on the bottom of the stock, see pics.

Any idea of what this is worth? I'm thinking of selling to raise money for more responsible things, but there isn't exactly a large precedent regarding EE sale prices of these rifles (not in my memory, anyway).

Any insight would be appreciated. I'd also be interested to see if others have similar rifles. :)

Thanks,

Everything you wanted to know about your German Captured Polish made wz.29 converted to G29/40!

Right here: http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php/988467-1939-Radom-G-29-40

I used to own the rifle in the above link, now it's passed on to ArtyMan to look after! :)

Also, this link is good reading: http://www.ycgg.org/pdfpages/ww2/G29_40.pdf

PS: The struck out wz. on the rifle stands for Wzor in Polish (Like Vzor in Czech) and means "model". So Model of 1929.

The Germans designated those rifles as "G29/40" or "Gewehr 1929/1940". (Gewehr meaning Gun/Rifle in German). The The Germans refurbished them to K98 specs in and around 1940 after the subjugation of Poland, hence the "40" designation after the original Polish designation of 29.

The number code 660 is the factory code for the Steyr Plant in Austria who got most of the loot from the Polish Radom factory.

The stock that rifle is wearing is definitely a late war Semi-Kriegsmodell laminate stock and welded bands, it should be wearing an early war flat buttplate laminate stock or one of the first cupped buttplate laminate stocks. (Early war stocks had the stock take down disc in the butt instead of the hole drilled through the buttplate).

The "GERMANY" stamp is an import stamp usually seen on rifles imported into the USA/North America around the 50's/60's... My bet is your rifle is a restored sporter like mine was.

Since you rifle has an incorrect stock set on it (albeit a nice late war one which is in good condition) I will venture out and say your rifle is worth more than an RC K98, but you'll pretty much have to set a reasonable price on up from there.

Germany stamped on the barrel makes it a post war export rifle. I think Globe firearms (Ottawa) bought these in the 50s or 60s . I have 2 or 3 of them. they seem to pop up in the Ottawa area regularly.

Thanks for the info, gents. I wasn't aware of an import by Globe.... I acquired this one at a gun show in Montreal so I wouldn't be surprised if it came in through them at some point.
