Hey all,

I found this video while mindlessly scrolling through YouTube. I have my suspicions about it correctness but I thought some of you might find it interesting:

Thanks,
Kevin

Hi Gents. Everyone who finds something different wants to believe its experimental. This gent has not been exposed to many Long Branch Mk I rifles. The safety, the bolt, the butt plate (brass of all things) are wrong. The bedding I'll bet is ridiculous if I heard him correctly. You want the barrel to sit firmly in the bottom front of the fore where the wood is proud. Not spring loaded up - that is SMLE bedding. So the rifle has been worked on my guess by an English smith. There were no experimental LB rifles until production expectations were being met then some things were tried out on a limited basis but only a short fore sniper made it out in the field. Did I see a BNP on the left side of the body? What no LB view marks on the wood? This gent is hoping he has a treasure but in fact its a lemon. The 1941 LB rifles were made to the Trials No. 4 Pattern but with no cut off. Thats the fact Jack. John

ok early features perhaps a early pattern rifle pre-production

however the safety is wrong, early LB safeties were not like that and that is the spoiler for the would thing
As stated, nothing about this rifle is experimental.

I don't have to watch the video. I can see from the thumbnail that the bolt is 1942 production at the earliest.

The 1941 Long Branch No4 MkI rifles were built to the No4MkI trials rifle drawing (with the exception of the cut off). As production proceded there was evolutionary change.

I know where I can get a few 1941 dated LB receivers which were never serial numbered, and I have access to a metal stamp set - but i would build it with the proper bolt.

Fake it till you make it they say...

The first flag for me was the torched " Suigi finish" on the stock, then the bolt tail piece and of course the safety.
Danged rifle has been put together from parts I think, and someone figured they would spruce of the stock by striping it!:puke:

Even before pressing play I knew it was a rebuild. Stripping just didn’t look right. And as mentioned already the stock and other parts are wrong. I just rebuilt a 41 so I did some research on them recently. One thing I would like to find is the proper waisted front site.

those front sights are hard to find.

I have some early parts kicking around but not one of the early front sites.

I have contemplated trying to mill a normal front sight protectors to a waisted profile but have not tried that yet...

I have been thinking of making one but it would be dremel and files. I have a couple of pictures so do have something to go by. I couldn’t find an original front band so I have a reproduction. Only hinged front bands I have ever seen where on rifles.
