Recent acquisition. 1942 Colt 1911A1.

Im not much of a pistol shooter, but I do like to collect nice things. Once I realized this Colt was from 1942, I had to buy it to go with my 1942 M1 Garand. Both are in the Lords calibers. The Colt will be shot on special occasions and that's pretty much it. I will probably get a set of new springs for it to freshen it up, but its pretty damn smooth as is.

Frame and slide matching, grips correct, other parts correct. I believe original finish. Barrel could be original but sometime in past has had sanding done to it, removed some finish and possibly stamps, so no way to tell if original or not, but most likely is.

Very, nice!

Colt made just over 105,000 USGI contract 1911A1's in 1942 out of a total WWII production of almost a million examples. So, a 1942 mfg Colt USGI 1911A1, in that condition, is pretty rare.

Good to know. I’m learning lots about it.

Originally I thought the barrel was not correct, but talking with some people on 1911fourm, it sounds like maybe it could be correct. It’s missing military proof marks, but it could be a colt commercial barrel. I guess Colt used what parts they had in 1942. A member on 1911fourm showed pictures of a barrel just like the one in this Colt, so I no longer think it was a messed with barrel.

Also, very excellent info on contract USGI 1911/1911A1's here: http://www.coolgunsite.com/
