1943 Ithaca 1911A1 shipped to the OSS in January '44

Found out something about my December 1943 Ithaca today....it was part of a group of 5000 provided to the OSS in early January 1944! ( Office of Strategic Services...later the CIA )


Serial no 1238916....
Dec 1943 production shipped to the Property Ordnance Officer, Supply Division, Office of Strategic Services, Fowler Building, Rossyln, VA on 1/11/44 in a shipment of 5000 pistols. No special markings noted on pistol to designate it OSS property. Note the large lettering style of the serial number found in the low 1200000 serial number range.

Serial no 1239717...
Dec 1943 production, packed/shipped January 5, 1944, and received by the Property Ordnance Officer, Supply Div., Office of Strategic Services, Fowler Bldg., Rosslyn, VA January 11, 1944. The order stipulates the deadline for delivery is 1/15/44 and Packed for Export.

Pretty cool score IMO.
Makes it along the lines of a waffenampt'd axis pistol. One is reminded of the ppk that was issued to a 'Special group' in the SS on the eastern front...you would imagine that it saw action.

I was just trying to date it as I was originally not sure if it was Dec 43 or Jan/Feb 44, and it wasn't really that important at the time.

When I started to look things up apparently this whole group of late '43 Ithaca's went to the OSS.....Interesting that they were all Ithaca's.
