I just picked up one of these from a Veteran. It needs TLC but since Portugal only made 4,000 to go along with the P-08s and 98K's for the Deutche Wehrmacht, it is rare!
I wonder if Portugal made anything else for the Third Reich? Portugal being one of Britain's greatest European allies, with the exception of WWII.

Yes,the 98K order in 1943 is the famous one. Thousands were produced in Portugal and used on the Russian front by the German army. These are very expensive now. There was a 1943 Luger contract fulfilled as well. The Spanish Blue Division, which fought around Stalingrad, and many other areas in the East, may have used some Spanish or Portual equipment. Their uniforms and equipment look German in the photos.
My question is what other equipment used by the Germans was produced in Portugal? Not including foodstuffs which a major trade did exist during the war.

Uhh, Portugal didn't make the k98's or lugers, Germany did, for Portugal. The only reason some ended up on the eastern front instead of Portugal was the horrific losses on that front. As far as I know Portugal didn't have enough manufacturing capacity to provide the Germans with much of anything other than maybe food (my grandmother used to tell me tales of near starvation, while food production was diverted for export) & some raw materials(maybe tungsten & such).

I agree.

The K98's and P08's used by Portugal were made by Germany for Portugal as part of a huge Contract. It is possible that Portugal had made individual items such as holsters and slings, but they were not made for the Wehrmacht.

Any weapons that were used by Germany on the Eastern Front or anywhere else was due to thier loses of materials in the war.

If you have Backbone of the Wehrmacht (The K98k Book) the info is on page 318. The first major order was in 1941 and these were total contact pieces. Then in 42-43 the Germans would send thier own production K98's to Portugal who would stamp them with thier markings.

Thanks Desporterize and CamS. What you say sounds more correct and certainly makes more historical sence.
The 3 Portugese P-08 holsters I've ever seen were clean of factory marks, just a serial # on this one now. Their appearance is different.
Thanks again, now I know the real story. I am glad for this site.
Note:
Byf 42 lugers were made in Germany for the Portugese contract. The holsters were made in Portugal though, 4,500.
