Hi guys,i'm wondering if you could shed some light on this.I bought an all matching 1944 M44 Izhevsk in nice shape at a gunshow about a year ago.The guy selling it was not even aware that it have German capture marking everywere on it until i paid him an he handed it to me,then he saw the markings and said "Hummm German capture marks".
So i saw the markings from the beginnings and it wasn't the reason i bought it but thought that it was nice to have them for the cool factor.
So almost a year past and while talking about it to a fellow Gunnutz that knows more than me about Mosins and milsurps in general he told me that those markings are likely to be fake on a 1944 M44.He said at the time they didnt have the time to stamp it but seeing the stamp closely we clearly see that they stamped it in 1963 and not during wartime...unless the 63 mean something else than the year... Also at the time i didnt have pictures or the M44 with me to show him.
I have taken not so bad pictures of it now and though i could share them with you guys and at least have other opinion about it.
It have markings on the left side of the barrel behind the rear sight,on the bolt,on the left side of the trigger group and also on the stock in front and rear of the trigger group.
So what you guys think?
