I bought 2 SKS rifles many years ago, one of which is a 1949 Tula. The other is an Arsenal 26 1967 Norinco. My question is, the Tula has a blade bayonet and laminate stock, so obviously it`s not original (right?) Also, there is no re-arsenal mark on the top of the receiver, but ALL numbers on this gun match, including the stock. I am confused about what I have here, and if it`s worth anything more than a regular 50s era Tula. Please advise, any info would be greatly appreciated.

Post pictures of all the serial stamping, the gas block and the bolt. The last 49 shown here was actually a late 1950 with a 1949 action cover. The 1949 should have a cruciform bayonet, type 1 gas block, hardwood stock, spring loaded bolt, no chrome lining in the barrel, long shank take-down lever, no spring in the safety and a few other little features. If the rifle has a blade bayonet and a laminate stock, it has been refurbished. Stock has been re-stamped to match as the laminates were only original issue on the 1956 models.

The bayonet could be original if it's a shiney one. The stock has definately been replaced at some point. Original laminates started in late 1955 with the "D" Letter Series Tulas. I doubt if there are many non-refurbed 1949 Tulas out there. So any 1949 Tula is worth more than a normal refurbed SKS45.

Is it stamped "Made in Russia CCCP" on the side of the receiver near the charging handle? Never seen that before. Other than that, I would say it is a refurbed 1949. Just need the proper bayonet...
