I picked up a case of this stuff back in 2003
Don't have much trigger time behind this ammo but I can tell you the bolt was often sticky extracting and about 50% of the cases had split necks. I stopped shooting it until I knew more about it. Turns out after a web search that I wasn't the only chap that was having this proble,. Some rounds were pretty hot in the recoil department and some were fairly mild.

Groups were about 5" at 100 metres in an Izzy 91/30.
The following may help to understand why.

According to7.62X54R.net this ammo has a muzzle velocity of 2710 fps +/- 24 fps. That's pretty fast - almost .30-06 territory.

I pulled the bullets from 22 samples and measured bullet dia., powder charge and bullet weight.

Powder Charge: 47.66gr +/- .495gr
Highest charge was 48.3gr and the lowest was 46.7gr of extruded cylindrical powder.

Bullet weight was 182.11gr +/- 0.81gr (that's a huge standard deviation)
Heaviest bullet was 183.0gr and the lightest was 181.2gr.

Bullet diameter was very consistent at 0.3109"
SD was negligible and not worth mentioning.

So, a five inch group starts to make sense now.

I don't think pulling bullets and reloading them will significantly reduce groups but I'm going to try.

I just discovered that this powder pic makes for a great desktop back ground too :)

I bought some about 2 years ago and remember using this ammo in my svt40 and m91/30. I did not experience split necks, but it did kick more than the czech silver tip ammo, specifically in my m91/30. The svt40 gobbled it up no problem after adjusting the gas setting but it did rattle the bottom of the magazine off lol. Fun stuff. As for groups I was just there to make noise and go bang and make the gong go 'ding' at a 100m.

I have some 1955 Hungarian Heavy "D" Ball. Works well in my M38, M44, M91/30 Sniper, and the SVT40! It does tend to knock the fillings loose... ;)

Sure do wish it came on strippers though...

I pulled all mine and recycled the components into decent S&B brass. It shot GREAT after I threw the charges consistently and seated the bullets to uniform length ;)

My SVT40 REALLY liked those reloads. More so than my mosins.
