Hi,

I just picked up an old (1952) Marlin 336 RC in 30-30. I've got no intention of keeping it.

I've had Marlins before, and while they are great rifles, I'm more of a bolt guy.

I'm attaching photos to get a general concensus on what I should do, refinish or sell as is.

Some guys want an original rifle, some don't. I just don't want to start working on it and find out I'm diminishing its value.

Any info is appreciated.

Thanks,

I agree with the two posts following your original cc.
That old gal looks like no extra holes drilled, so worthy or
someone owner an unaltered one.
Thanks for the photos.

I'd rub off some of the rust with some extra fine steel wool and gun oil and let the next guy decide what to do.... unless you are good at and really enjoy refinishing guns!

The older Marlins are classics and if it did get refinished a slow rust process would be best.

lots of great ideas, and they're all the same, leave it alone (or minimal interference with it).

i just posted it in the EE and the response has been incredible! i guess there's a lot of interest in these old rifles.

i added a few more pics to the album too. the pics don't do it justice though. the bluing is gone from most of the rifle, and that patina look is left.

looks like an old 1926 cooey i have. nice.
