Hi all

I recently came across a 1953 Izhevsk refurb.

Its in great condition with bluing not BBQ. The woodstock is very nice, a well done shellac. There is a wood crack down one side though under the bolt.

Can anyone give me an idea of what it might be worth?

Don’t sell it. That said I wouldn’t take a penny under $450 because of the crack or $600 without the crack. I sold one similar in mint condition for $700 recently and a non-refurb mint in the grease with internally pinned mag for almost $1000 on here.

Izzy 53 are rare bird and I lost mine in a boat accident

Beautiful ^^

Only managed to briefly own a BBQed 1954 Izzy until it suffered the same fate.
Not sure that it was better than a Tula, just different and special because of it.

I have or had mint examples of both, and there's no difference in quality, though I have seen some deeply blued '54 Izzy's. The '53 Izzy's came in a nice honey-brown stained stock, which makes them unique. They are also more rare than a 1949, and thus collectible.

Yes, I have never heard an explanation why this was, but thats a great observation.
