So I have the opportunity to purchase a 1953 returned Izhavesk SKS for $250.stock I believe is sanded and forced matched, but no ###x. Also bayo is black. All other parts are matching an no obvious refurb markims are present. So what say you?

It all depends on the condition. Check the bore, condition of the gas tube and gas piston, bolt carrier and bolt. Check for obvious signs of rust and wear.
In the end, it's $250. Big deal. Buy it if it's nice, because if you pass, and you don't find another nice '53 Izhevsk, you may regret it. Personally, I would rather pay $50 -$100 more for a rifle I handled as opposed to buying sight unseen.

Sounds pricey TBH. IMHO, ATM the best sks deal going is:

The tradex deal is great too, but noncorrosive ammo is very nice. The sks with it's gas piston takes more time to clean than a bolt or break action rifle. Throw corrosive ammo on top of that and it can make the sks a bit of a chore. If you are the slightest bit lazy about cleaning, then go with non corrosive.

EDIT: and after the final checkout the total will likely be closer than you'd think ;)

Thanks guys, I have had a few SKS before, and still have a nice 54 Izzy, but I knew a while ago ppl were going nuts over a 53, so just checking to see if it was still the case. I will probably pass on it, and try to find a nice non refurb at the next gun show.
