1953 Marlin 336 RC with dovetail front sight - what did you do? It's not a ramp sight

Got a beautiful shape 336 30-30 the other day on trade.
Its not a waffle top which is fine but just pristine except for the DOVETAIL front sight is going to be a problem.
Apprarently if I put a Williams FPS or Lyman peep sight on I have to have a much higher front dovetail sight.

Williams says 5.3 or higher. Lyman didn't say anything but folks on blogs had issues.
Can I throw this out to folks who have an aftermarekt peep sight and what they did for the front sight issue.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

My first stop would be Skinner Sights, who ship to Canada. They'll be able to sell you a slightly taller post front sight with the correct dovetail... then it's just a matter of sighting in and filing down the front sight until you're where you want to be.
 
Just get the tallest dovetail front sight you can find, in the bead style of your choice and go from there would be my advice.... if it's a hair higher then necessary you can adjust fir that with the rear sight. I don't think you can get anything over a half inch high.

Williams used to make a riser block to give people the option of going higher with the front sight...... you could also get a sight base installed on the barrel if you really like the peep sights and are still a bit low for some reason up front...

+1 on Skinner sights rather than Williams. Either way, you’ll need a taller front. Just drift or push out the old one (in the right direction) and drift or push in the new one. Pretty simple stuff.
