1954 Izhevsk - First SKS

Just picked up my first SKS, a 1954 Izhevsk. I got it from the LGS for $189, seems to be a decent price.

I don't know too much about the SKS, but I do not see a refurbished marking on the receiver. Hardwood stock, with only 1 marking on it that I can see. (Pictured below) This was the only Izhevsk out of the lot, the rest were Tula.

Not sure if this is a collectable non-refurb or not. Pictures below, if anyone could give me any more info I'd appreciate it.

Beauty for sure looks a lot like my Izzy, same year too. Mine has smooth bluing though. That looks to be a laminate (ply) stock as well, no?

Is it BBQ painted, or is it sandblasted and re-blued? Definitely a refurb though. Still, a nice rifle.

The hand guard may be hardwood would need a better pic to confirm but the stock is laminate. If the hand guard is hardwood and the stock is laminate - another sign of refurb. But the laminate stock have their own charm too as well as being heavier and stronger. Good for a refurb shooter.

Yup, hand guard is hardwood. Ultimately you have a nice refurb 54 Izzy shooter. Give it a good cleaning, grab a case of ammo and have fun with your new acquisition.
